Men's Match Away vs Tamworth
Report by the Mike
Won 3 - 0

PVC March on

So the unbeaten PVC Men converged at Tamworth across from almost all points of the compass an 8pm match with the men who came second in the league last year. Okay, so some of us converged at Martin's first (even though he wasn't playing - but the pep talk was clearly good....).

Buoyed by their victory at Hermitage the previous week (last year's league winners), PVC performed their usual solid warm up, and indeed one or two looked like they had already had a game before the match started.

Keith's first match captaining the squad of seven in Chris' absence, he vowed not to leave anyone on the bench for all 3 sets (*cough* like last year...), although John looked a little nervous as he took first stint chearing from the side.

& cheer we did, with enthusiasm and much raucousness: it almost felt like the relentless volume was worth 5 or 6 points alone as PVC got off to a
very solid start. Jordan was, as always, exemplary in his hitting, and in
the first set his serving too was top quality: we took the lead and never lost it, running out strong 25-12 winners.

The experienced Tamworth team stayed a lot closer in the second set. John took over from Geoff's setting (alongside Keith) and continued to feed up the hitters. PJ and Jordan were strong out at four, with Dave and Mike dominating the middle, the hits were going well in. Some good use of 'hitting off the block' all helped, as we took the second set (and hence
match) 25-20.

The team really wanted to win the third set this week, so once more we dug, set, hit and chanted our way to a solid victory 25-13. A sweet reverse set from John and spike from Mike finished the game, with another victory in the bag, this time 3-0 :-) To be harsh, the digging could have been better throughout, which meant the setting could also have been easier, so PVC still have a way to go to hit their best form, but the march goes on.

Squad
Keith, Mike, Jordan, John, Paul J, Dave, Geoff.
