Men's Match Away vs Wyggeston & QE1
Report by the Mike
Won 3 - 0

And on the PVC men roll ...

It was an extraordinary sight at Cannons on Monday: no less than 10 PVC men (better than 10 Men in PVC, eh ;-) turning up hoping for a piece of the action.   A lesson to us all: get a winning side & everyone wants to be a part of it !

The match itself was a right old curates egg: parts of it were very good: we started each set well, taking an early lead and playing some good controlled 3-touch volleyball.   Every now and then (more so in the second and third sets) we appeared to relax, letting the youngsters claw back into the game.

Geoff and Keith performed the setting in the first two sets, Geoff showing a speed of movement last seen in the summer tournament of 1989, with Keith being as reliable as ever.  Dave and Martin were strong through the middle, with Martin providing the sort of firm consistancy Mrs Beeton only dreamed about achieving, with Jordan and Raj providing some stirling work through 4, despite Jordan's injured shoulder.   At least he can have a break for a few weeks to let it fully recover over Christmas....

The noise on court was again outstanding: the chanting and sense of team-ness must be worth at least 5 points every match to us.

Chris brought John on for Raj in the second, leaving 3 of us on the bench gagging for a run-out.....and come the third set, we had our chance, with wholesale changes.

The match was already won, with Wygg's only managing 14 points in the first and a more creditable 18 in the second, so Chris took off the setters and Dave, switching John in to set with himself, and letting Mike and PJ take the middle.   Again a set of three halves ensured (huh ?) with a strong start, a wavering middle and a good finish to keep Wyggy at 18 points and to chalk up another win for the boys.....

Squad
Chris (c), Keith, Mike, Raj, Jordan, Geoff, Dave, John, Paul, Martin.
