PVC scrape a victory

Some say it is a mark of a good team to play poorly and win. PVC were fortunate to put in their worst performance of the season against a Loughborough side without the guile or confidence to take advantage.

With Chris and Geoff setting, Dave and Mike in the middle, Jordan and Raj out wide, PVC started slowly again and were kept on equal footing by Loughborough by a mixture of poor first passes and poor finishing. Halfway through the set, though, PVC started to stretch ahead as they cut out some of the basic errors.

The second set continued much as the first had ended with PVC playing solid volleyball. Even the introduction by Loughborough of the legendary Phil Cobb to stabilise the team couldn't stem the flow.

In the third set, Chris introduced Martin and John for Geoff and Raj. In a scrappy set, Loughborough were able to plug away and only lose by 3 points thanks to some wayward hitting and serving by PVC.

In summary, PVC did enough to win and were never seriously threatened. The court movement and coverage was once again excellent, but the first pass to the setters must improve for the next match to give a chance for the potent PVC attack to function effectively.

A special thanks to Allan who came along but didn't get to play.
