Men's Match Away vs Loughborough University
Report by Mike
Won 3 - 0

What time's the match again, Chris?

Doctors receptionists are very keen on it. Plane, bus and other transport companies build their reputation on it. Heck, anyone who has taken an exam has become experienced in it.

Punctuality.

A new watchword for the Men's Captain. If it didn't have so many syllables, it would undoubtedly have been the call for the night.

In the run-in to the end of the season, with the Men's team riding high, Chris had requested as many as possible to get to Loughborough early for the 6:30pm start. For some, this wasn't a problem. For others, it meant rearranging their day.
Jordan flew back that day from Poland to be there. Dave drove to Leicester at the crack of dawn to get the 06:00 train to London, just so he could get back up to L'bro in time.

Magnificent dedication !

So by 18:45, there was a motley crew of 8 PVC Men in the foyer at the New Sports Hall in L'bro.

But no opponents. Were the youthful students too scared to take part ? Had they decided they would be better off in the Union Bar, safely downing pints, instead of facing the firepower of PVC Men ?

No. They were probably having their tea, in the full knowledge that the match wasn't to start until 9pm. Doh!!!

So Geoff & Lee headed back to their home's, and the rest of us headed across to the non-Union bar on campus, for a warm-up game of pool, and in some cases, a large slice of deep-pan pizza to line the stomach. 2 hours and some strong coffees later, we headed back.

and so finally, almost 3 hours after we arrived, battle commenced.

With Chris & Geoff setting, Mike and Dave through the middle, and Lee and Jordan through 4, PVC started off very solidly, and whilst it wasn't outstandingly spectacular, quietly took the first set by a very respectable 25-7. Jordan's hitting was reliably firm, but it was his third time round before the
serves started going in !

The same six then demonstrated how to let L'bro start to get back in the game, dropping 1-4 down at the start of the second set. A gritty determination not to let the long evening turn sour meant we clawed back, stretching into a gradual lead to
take the set 25-18.

The third set saw wholesale changes. Mike, Geoff and Lee came off to be replaced by PJ, John and Raj. A better set ensued, with the lead being taken earlier and held for a 25-18 result,
and another 3-0 win for the boyz.
